Huawei Mate XT 2 Launched In China With New Folding Design, Kirin 9050 Pro SoC

Huawei has unveiled its latest tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT 2, in China, following its predecessor, the original Mate XT. The new device introduces a completely redesigned folding mechanism and several notable upgrades. The hinge now folds the phone inward in a distinctive wing-like shape, requiring a separate outer display.

The 6.5-inch LTPO OLED cover screen boasts a high resolution of 2,442 x 1,140 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, and impressive peak brightness of 6,500 nits. This screen features basalt glass for enhanced durability against drops and scratches. The inner display is a 10.2-inch 90Hz LTPO OLED panel with a 2,232 x 3,184 pixel resolution and a 12.8:9 aspect ratio, featuring a privacy function similar to the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Maintaining a slim and lightweight design, the unfolded phone measures only 3.5mm at its thinnest point and weighs around 299g, making it lighter than competing models. It includes a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and touch-sensitive buttons on either side of the frame, which can record the user's ECG. The foldable also offers IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance.

Powering the Mate XT 2 is the new Kirin 9050 Pro SoC, which marks the first mobile processor built using Huawei's LogicFolding architecture. This chipset features an upgraded NPU and GPU and promises to be over 42% faster than the one included in the Mate XT. The phone comes with 16GB of RAM and storage options up to 1TB.
