How two men survived nine days in a Nepal flood tunnel

Kabir Maharjan and Sanjay Sah, two hydropower workers, endured nine days of darkness and delirium in Nepal's Trishuli flood tunnel. The disaster unfolded when an avalanche on August 26th unleashed a deluge, drowning more than 1,300 people and leaving thousands missing. Maharjan, unable to reach his wife before his shift, descended into an air-filled chamber.

Despite the despair, he managed to survive, unaware that his wife did not recognize him. Sah, working in the control room, tried to warn his colleagues about the impending flood, but many were swept away. The rescue effort, led by engineer Shri Ram Neupane, involved drilling, controlled blasting, and heavy machinery. After three days, a breakthrough was made, allowing them to finally reach the men. The story of their survival gives hope to those still trapped in the devastated valley.
