Hannah Yeoh: Transport problems threatening school attendance of 989 Labuan students, 437 to get aid

On September 8, Minister Hannah Yeoh announced that 989 students from 25 schools in Labuan, a Federal Territory, are facing obstacles to their school attendance. Transportation is identified as a primary factor hindering their access to education. In a Facebook post, Yeoh revealed that the initiative to address this issue begins with providing assistance to 437 students in six schools through the Student School Transportation Facility in Labuan.

This initiative involves a collaboration between the Federal Territories Department, Labuan Corporation, Labuan Federal Territory Education Department, schools, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), and the industry, specifically the Labuan Mini Bus Operators Association. The primary goal of this collaboration is to ensure that transportation issues no longer prevent students from attending school.

Yeoh emphasized that these children, eager to learn, are unable to do so due to the difficulty of their journey to school. She stressed that their future should not be obstructed merely by the challenge of reaching their educational institutions.
