GACL wins two awards at ACI World Airport Experience Summit

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) recently received two prestigious awards at the 8th Airports Council International (ACI) World Airport Experience Summit, held in Istanbul, Turkey. The summit, which took place from August 31 to September 4, 2026, honored Accra International Airport (AIA) for its exceptional passenger service and customer experience.

AIA was recognized with the Best Airport at Departures - Africa award in the two to five million passengers category. Additionally, the airport received the Customer Experience Accredited Airport - Level (1) recognition. Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, GACL's Managing Director, expressed her pride in this achievement, emphasizing the collective effort from various stakeholders in the airport ecosystem.

She commended the AIA staff for their hard work and urged them to maintain the high standards that earned the airport international recognition. Mrs Opare stressed that these awards signal the beginning of a journey of continuous improvement in passenger experience at the Accra International Airport.

The summit, themed "Airport Experience: The New Era," focused on the future of human-centered travel. Discussions revolved around the importance of hospitality and how leading airports are placing people at the core of their operations, organizational culture, and service delivery. A major highlight of the event was the Gala and Awards Ceremony, where more than 100 top-performing airports were honored with Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards and Customer Experience Accreditations.

The ACI Airport Service Quality Programme serves as a benchmark for airport passenger satisfaction, while the ACI World Airport Customer Experience Accreditation Programme aims to enhance airports' long-term capacity in managing customer experience through a comprehensive review and training process.
