Former IAS officer Rakesh Mehta dies by suicide at Noida residence

Former Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta passed away by suicide at the age of 74, as reported on Tuesday. Noida police found a suicide note in his possession, citing mental and health issues as the cause. The body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in his Sector 82 residence in Noida on September 6. Mehta, a 1975 batch IAS officer, had served as chief secretary for over three years during the tenure of ex-chief minister Sheila Dixit.

The Commonwealth Games were held in Delhi in 2010, coinciding with his tenure. Mehta was known for his role in executing key transport, power, and civic infrastructure projects in the city. He also worked as the commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and held various other positions within the Delhi government.

Mehta retired in November 2010 after serving as chief secretary from 2007. He was cremated at Lodhi Road crematorium on Monday.
