Flood allegedly sweeps away 12-year-old girl in Umuahia

A 12-year-old girl named Ella was swept away by flood in the Agbama area of Umuahia, Abia State, on Monday evening. The incident occurred during a five-hour rain, causing concern among the local community. According to reports, the girl was on an errand during the rain when she fell into a large gutter. The gutters in the Agbama, Road Two, and World Bank areas of Umuahia were reportedly covered by the rising water levels, leading the girl to step into them and be swept away.

Upon learning of the girl's disappearance, residents of Agbama quickly organized a search party that extended to the low-cost housing and World Bank housing estates, as well as the Umuafai community. The search party lasted until 10:30 pm on Monday night but was unable to locate the missing child. The search resumed on Tuesday morning but also failed to find Ella.

As of the report's time, no official statement had been released by any government agencies in Abia State regarding the incident. Attempts to contact the State Police Command and State Homeland Security Agency Board for information were not successful as of 7pm on Tuesday.
