Diphtheria: Plateau gov’t deploys medical supplies to combat disease

Plateau State's government has swiftly deployed drugs and medical supplies to combat a diphtheria outbreak, according to a recent update. Director-General of the Plateau State Drug and Medical Commodity Management Agency, Kim Jerry Bot, revealed on Monday that the intervention was already underway at the Jos University Teaching Hospital and Plateau State Specialist Hospital.

The state government's prompt action followed reports of the outbreak, with Governor Caleb Mutfwang directing the mobilisation of necessary resources. Commissioner for Health, Dr Nicholas Baamlong, has provided leadership in coordinating the response to contain the disease, which has already claimed over 23 lives in the state. The closure of schools, both public and private, was announced two days prior, emphasizing the severity of the health emergency.
