Davis-Woodhall ends season after car crash

Olympic long jump champion Tara Davis-Woodhall has decided to end her 2026 season after suffering a severe concussion in a car crash. The 27-year-old American will miss the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Hungary this week. Davis-Woodhall expressed her sadness and disappointment on social media, stating that she knows this has to be part of her story and that she will be back, despite the setback.

She won long jump gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics and also topped the podium at the World Championships in Tokyo the following year. In August, Davis-Woodhall was involved in a head-on collision while en route to training, resulting in both vehicles being totaled. The World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Hungary begins on September 11th, with top athletes competing for a prize money of £111,000.
