Dabo Swinney rebukes reporter who asked about Clemson's roster construction days after lopsided Week 1 loss to LSU

After a humiliating 51-10 loss to LSU, Clemson’s head coach Dabo Swinney expressed frustration towards a reporter’s probing question about his offseason roster construction. The Tigers, who were just outside the preseason AP Top 25 rankings, fell out of the poll entirely following their defeat. In a recent news conference, Swinney dismissed the question as belonging to the “gotcha guy” persona reporters employ to create controversy.

He emphasized that the season wasn’t over yet, and that he would answer such queries at the end of the campaign, when the team would have had more opportunities to prove themselves. Swinney’s recent 7-8 record in his last 15 games, coupled with the team’s struggles in terms of yardage gained and player acquisitions, suggests that his team’s performance and Swinney’s defensive tactics are under scrutiny.

Despite adding a record 13 transfer and JUCO players to bolster the roster, the Tigers failed to secure a single offensive lineman and were outgained by LSU by a significant margin of 644-145. The Tigers also conceded four sacks and both of their quarterbacks displayed subpar performances.
