Cooperation within Cabinet remains strong, says PM

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has stated that cooperation among Cabinet members remains strong, despite claims to the contrary. He emphasized that political stability and cooperation within the Cabinet were key factors contributing to the government's success and ability to steer the country's direction. At an assembly with staff members from the plantation and commodities ministry in Putrajaya, Anwar highlighted the commendable performance of the government, attributing it to clear policies, political stability, and strong Cabinet cooperation.

The prime minister urged the government to leverage this stability to continue its plans and implement policies benefiting the nation. However, Bloomberg previously reported indications of strained relations between Anwar and his deputy, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, with shorter Cabinet meetings and tensions stemming from Zahid's decision to have Barisan Nasional contest the Johor and Negeri Sembilan elections.

Additionally, DAP's calls for institutional reforms by year-end, while Anwar seeks BN's support for constitutional amendments, have added to the perceived strain. In response to these allegations, Zahid denied any issues with DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook and stated that Cabinet meetings continued as usual. He reaffirmed that BN would honor its commitment to remain in the unity government until the end of its term.
