Bildungstest: „Desaströs“: Deutschland bei Pisa-Studie so schwach wie nie

German students have performed the worst in the latest Pisa study, matching the disappointing results from 2000 that sparked the "Pisa Shock." The study, released on Tuesday, reveals that 15-year-old German students scored the lowest competence levels in science, reading, and mathematics since the Pisa assessments began. Samuel Greiff, the head of the Pisa study in Germany, noted a "clear downward trend," stating that the decline in student performance is not limited to specific achievement areas or particular groups of students, but is evident across the entire performance spectrum.

Karin Prien, the German Education Minister, called the findings "cause for concern," expressing that Germany is failing to unleash the potential of young people and that the "promise of upward mobility" in the country is not working. Prien added that the education system is facing significant challenges, attributing them partly to late adjustments to an increasingly diverse student population, changes in parental upbringing, and increased screen time and social media use.
