B5 Plus presents GH¢400m tax cheque to GRA

B5 Plus Company Limited presented a GH¢400 million tax cheque to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) as part of its commitment to financing Ghana's development. The company, chaired by Mukesh Thakwani, operates within Ghana's iron and steel manufacturing sector. During the presentation, Dr Martin Kolbil Yamborigya, Commissioner of the GRA's Domestic Tax Revenue Division, expressed gratitude towards B5 Plus for its tax compliance.

He emphasized that the taxes paid by the company go towards funding roads, schools, hospitals, security, and other public services that benefit the entire nation.

Dr Yamborigya highlighted the importance of a robust domestic revenue base for sustaining development and reducing Ghana's reliance on borrowing and external assistance. He also underscored the government's responsibility to ensure the efficient and accountable use of public resources. The Commissioner appealed to taxpayers to maintain accurate records, file returns on time, and pay the correct taxes. Additionally, he encouraged consumers to reduce revenue leakage by requesting VAT invoices for eligible purchases.

Dr Yamborigya urged the media to support public education and scrutiny on taxation while acknowledging the GRA's commitment to making tax compliance simpler, fairer, and more convenient. He connected B5 Plus's compliance to the broader responsibility of businesses towards Ghana's development, stating that their compliance is a significant contribution to the nation's progress.
