Asien: Japans Wirtschaft wächst im zweiten Quartal stärker als zunächst geschätzt

Tokyo - Japanese economic growth for the second quarter has been revised upward following government reports, indicating a stronger expansion than initially estimated, according to Daiwa Securities Chief Economist Kento Minami. The country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rose by 1.4% for the quarter, up from the initial 1.1% growth assessment.

Economists had projected an average growth of 1.6% before the revision. The economy expanded by 0.4% when not annualized, compared to the 0.9% contraction previously reported in quarterly business investments. Private consumption, which accounts for more than half of Japan's economic output, remained stagnant. Foreign demand, or exports minus imports, contributed 0.5 percentage points to growth, as initially estimated.

Domestic demand, however, slowed the growth by 0.1 percentage points, contrary to the initial prediction of a 0.2% negative impact.
