Ashanti GJA launches 2025 regional media awards to celebrate excellence in journalism

The Ashanti regional chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has inaugurated the Ashanti Media Excellence Awards in Kumasi, with the aim of recognizing excellence in journalism across various media disciplines. GJA Ashanti Chairman, Kofi Adu Domfeh, reiterated the commitment to prioritize regional journalists' interests through transparent and accountable governance.

The theme for this year's edition, "Celebrating Excellence, Championing Credibility: Journalism in the Age of AI," highlights the need to uphold professionalism amidst the spread of misinformation and advancements in artificial intelligence.

Kofi Adu Domfeh emphasized the importance of critical verification, accuracy, fairness, and balanced reporting in an era of deep fakes and disinformation. The launch brought together media professionals and stakeholders to introduce the planning and vetting committees, unveil the award categories, and explain the updated nomination guidelines for the 2025 edition. The categories this year encompass sports, health, education, agriculture, arts and tourism, documentary, features, science, environment, and climate change.

Eunice Attakorah Manu, Chairperson for Female Media Practitioners, urged journalists across the region to participate in association activities, fostering a unified and resilient media ecosystem. The awards ceremony is set to take place in the first week of October, with nominations currently open for evaluation by a five-member jury.
