An Iranian port city feels pain of Washington's tightening economic measures

Bandar Abbas, an Iranian port city situated on the Strait of Hormuz, is experiencing the repercussions of tightened economic measures imposed by the United States following six months of conflict. The bustling waterfront, once filled with boats, trucks, and workers, has now become desolate. This front-line city, home to over 700,000 people, has been shaken by recent U.S. airstrikes targeting coastal areas, leaving residents feeling angry and anxious about their daily lives.

Taxi driver Hamid Hajizadeh expressed his disbelief, stating that Americans, portrayed as heroes in movies, have caused destruction in various places such as schools, weddings, roads, and bridges. The city, located right on the strait that has garnered global attention, has witnessed the full impact of the ongoing situation. Residents acknowledge that their proximity to the Strait of Hormuz has brought them only danger and discomfort over the past six months.

Mohammad Torabian, a worker at the dock providing services to passengers, shares the sentiment of the community, highlighting the terrible situation for businesses at the moment. Prior to the war, Torabian recalled, as many as 50 trucks would operate daily. Now, the economic landscape has drastically changed, leaving the port city grappling with the consequences of U.S. economic sanctions and the broader conflict.
