Alexis Mac Allister ‘very, very sad’ Liverpool hasn’t offered him a new contract

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister expressed deep disappointment over the club's decision not to offer him a contract extension, telling reporters he was "very, very sad." The 27-year-old Argentine footballer still hopes to secure a new deal with the Reds.

Mac Allister, who won the Premier League title with Liverpool in the 2023-24 season, announced on Tuesday that he had other options available to leave the club during the offseason. He argued that he does not need to prove his worth just to receive the same kind of contract extension signed by his midfield teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch in the current summer.

The midfielder, who has been with Liverpool since 2023, said he was left "a little bit sad" after seeing his teammates renew their contracts. "Everyone can see that I give my 100% for this football club every single day in training, games," Mac Allister said ahead of Liverpool's Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

Although his contract runs through the 2027-28 season, without an extension Mac Allister would likely have more transfer value at the start of the next year. However, Liverpool would lose him for nothing if his deal expires.

Argentine coach Andoni Iraola praised Mac Allister's performances in the club's three Premier League games and said that it is important for the player to want to stay at the club.
