Aiyedatiwa Rolls Out N18m Support for Widows in Ondo over Economic Hardship

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has introduced a N18 million support program for widows in three local government areas, as part of his administration's initiatives to alleviate economic hardship for vulnerable groups. The O'Datiwa Widows Care Programme, inaugurated at the palace of the Olubaka of Oka-Akoko, provided free medical checks, essential medications, and financial aid to over 500 widows across 15 wards.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Bosede Osamaye, highlighted that the programme aims to offer immediate relief to widows grappling with difficulties in supporting themselves and their families post their husbands' demise. Osamaye emphasized that the intervention not only seeks to alleviate poverty but also aims to strengthen the resilience of widows, specifically those who bear the burden of raising children and providing for their families alone.

Additionally, Aiyedatiwa has issued a firm stance against anti-party activities within the All Progressives Congress (APC) leading up to the 2027 general election. The governor dismissed rumors of him advocating candidates from other parties, asserting that he has not instructed any candidate to run in a different party. He charged the 18 local government and 203 ward chairmen of the APC to mobilize grassroots members and secure victory for the party in the forthcoming elections.

Addressing a stakeholders' meeting in Akure, Aiyedatiwa underscored the critical role of ward chairmen in the party's structure and electoral machinery, emphasizing that elections hinge on outcomes at the polling units located within the wards.
