After child mauled, Johor orders operation to capture five stray dogs

A two-year-old girl in Kampung Tambak, Batu Pahat was attacked by five stray dogs on Saturday. Johor has initiated a major operation to locate and capture the dogs, with the state Religious Affairs Committee chairman, Mohd Fared Mohd Khaled, emphasizing the importance of testing the animals for rabies. This is crucial for both the safety of residents and the child's long-term recovery, as rabies could complicate her treatment.

The operation will involve the Batu Pahat district office, Veterinary Services Department, and police, using a combination of surveillance, monitoring, and intelligence-gathering. The Batu Pahat Municipal Council and DVS have previously carried out capture operations in the area, but continued stray dog presence indicates intensified efforts are necessary.

The state government will cover all of Nur Haira Wafiqah Muhammad Hamizi's medical treatment and rehabilitation costs, with her expected to have a lengthy recovery. Her 12-year-old brother, traumatized by the incident, remains under the hospital's care.
