77-year-old Mercedes driver faces charges over wrong-way run

Bangkok, 8th September 2026 - A 77-year-old woman, known as Da, faces charges after being captured on camera driving a white Mercedes-Benz against traffic on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, just before the Lat Phrao five-way intersection. The incident was first brought to the public's attention through a dashcam video that was posted online, sparking disbelief at the sight of a luxury vehicle driving in the wrong direction.

Upon reviewing CCTV footage, police identified the owner of the Mercedes and Da arrived at Vibhavadi Police Station on Tuesday to give a statement. Accompanied by her daughter, Da appeared before investigators wearing sunglasses and a face mask, declining to answer questions from the media. She admitted to the initial charges, which also included negligent driving and violation of traffic signs.

Da, a property developer, owns a real estate project in Bangkok's Ratchada area. The Mercedes involved in the incident is expected to be examined as part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the wrong-way driving event. Police have instructed Da's relatives to bring the vehicle to the station for examination. Authorities will proceed with the case in accordance with the law.
