25-year-old arrested over alleged killing of man in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 25-year-old individual, Jabir Yusuf, in connection with the alleged shooting death of his acquaintance, Hassan Mohamed, in Toro Local Government Area. The incident transpired on Monday around 11:30 a.m. in Rinjin Gura village, located within Zalau Ward of Toro LGA. SP Nafiu Habib, the command's public spokesperson, revealed this information in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu.

According to Habib, a local resident alerted the police that the suspect had discharged a Dane gun at Mohamed, causing a neck injury. In response to the report, Gumau Division officers were dispatched to the scene, where the victim was transported to Toro General Hospital for medical care. Unfortunately, Mohamed succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.

The deceased's body was subsequently handed over to his family for burial according to Islamic customs. Habib disclosed that Yusuf has been apprehended and the firearm allegedly utilized in the incident has been seized as evidence. The case has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for a thorough investigation and potential prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police expressed condolences to the deceased's family and mandated a comprehensive inquiry into the incident's background. Additionally, he urged residents to refrain from the illicit possession and negligent use of firearms, emphasizing that violators will be held accountable under the law.
