Women's football coach eyes 1st Asian Games gold for S. Korea

Shin Sang-woo, the head coach of South Korea's women's national football team, expressed his ambition to make history by securing the first gold medal for his country at the Asian Games. The Asian Games, taking place in Japan, have been divided into three groups of four teams each. The top two teams from every group, along with the two best third-place teams, will move on to the quarterfinals.

Currently ranked 19th worldwide, South Korea will face 11th-ranked North Korea in Group F, with Myanmar and Bangladesh as their other opponents. The South Korean team will kick off the tournament against Myanmar at 7:30 pm next Monday in Osaka, followed by a match against Bangladesh at 4 pm on September 17 in Osaka as well. The highly anticipated Korean match-up will commence at 4 pm on September 21 in Fukuroi, located about 100 kilometers east of Nagoya.

Women's football made its debut in the Asian Games in 1990, with China, Japan, and North Korea each claiming three gold medals thus far. The South Korean team won their sole gold medal at the inaugural Asian Games held in 1990.
