Woman sues preschool for negligence after son was pushed off indoor slide by another student

In Singapore, a woman is taking legal action against a preschool claiming negligence after her six-year-old son was pushed off a 75cm-high indoor slide by another student during playtime. The incident occurred on July 12, 2024, and the woman is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The woman's legal team argues that the teachers on duty were distracted, as they were on their mobile phones or conversing, which led to them not noticing several dangerous incidents between her son and another boy.

The woman states that there were no safety mats laid out under the slide at the time of the accident, and she presented four video clips to the court, showing the progression of events. She claims that her son could be heard crying "pain, pain" after the incident, and the teachers were completely unaware of the injury. The woman argues that it is reasonable to expect teachers to be vigilant in high-risk areas such as the slide and questions the lack of safety mats.

She also noted that photos from 2017 showed mats around the slide, but they were not present on the day of the incident. The preschool's legal team countered the claims, questioning the definition of "effective supervision" and the woman's understanding of the regulations set by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).
