When is the trial operation for Egypt’s high-speed electric train?

Trial operations for Egypt's high-speed electric train are set to commence in October, according to Tarek Goweily, head of the National Authority for Tunnels. The operations will start on the section connecting Ain Sokhna to the 6th of October City. This project phase focuses on the stretch from Ain Sokhna to Marsa Matrouh, where completion rates currently stand between 85% and 88%.

Following the inaugural line's trial operations, subsequent sections of the line will undergo gradual testing, Goweily revealed. The overall implementation timeline hinges on the completion of testing procedures, securing international safety certification, and finalizing the training and qualification of the operating crews, encompassing drivers and technicians.

The German company entrusted with operating the train initiated training for the operating crews in February and is anticipated to conclude this phase by either February or March. This ensures that the crews will be adequately prepared to manage and operate the high-speed electric system.

Goweily emphasized that the high-speed electric train project transcends mere transportation development. By traversing its route, the train will positively impact urban and industrial communities along the way. It will contribute to the growth of new areas, stimulate investment, and foster population expansion. The project is viewed as one of the most crucial pillars of modern transportation in Egypt, as it supports the burgeoning urban and industrial zones along its path.
