What encouraged Blake Anderson about Southern Miss football after season opener

Junior Steven Robinson and redshirt freshman Jamarice Wilder accounted for the majority of Southern Miss' running plays in the season opener's 49-3 victory over Alcorn State on September 5. Following junior Robert Briggs' early exit due to injury, Robinson ran for 123 yards and three touchdowns, while Wilder contributed 90 yards and two touchdowns.

Anderson expressed optimism about the team's progress, particularly in the offensive and defensive lines, as well as the running backs, stating that the improvements could significantly impact games in a way they hadn't been able to a year prior. The defense's success was largely attributed to its ability to tackle effectively, with just eight missed tackles in the game.

Anderson emphasized that the performance was commendable, considering most players were rookies. Despite being the favored team, Anderson recognized the match against Alcorn State as a necessary victory for Southern Miss, as they were considered the better team.
