Wadid Benaabou starts work as France’s new ambassador to Kenya

Nairobi, Kenya - Wadid Benaabou officially commenced his duties as France's new Ambassador-designate to Kenya on Monday, following the completion of Arnaud Suquet's term in the position. Benaabou expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to begin his mission, emphasizing the deep and enduring partnership between France and Kenya.

"I am honored to take on this role and look forward to working closely with our Kenyan partners," Benaabou stated. The French Republic officially appointed Benaabou as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Kenya on August 7, 2026. Prior to his current role, Benaabou held various positions in French diplomacy, including a senior adviser at France's Court of Auditors and key positions in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He also served as Political Coordinator and Deputy Political Coordinator for France's delegation to the United Nations Security Council in New York. Benaabou's extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy and French foreign policy will undoubtedly contribute to the strengthening of the relationship between France and Kenya. Currently, Kenya and France are collaborating on a range of issues, including trade and investment, development, security, climate action, and multilateral diplomacy.
