Ukraine–U.S.–Russia talks could resume in New York, Zelenskyy says

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the potential resumption of peace negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia in New York during September and October. In an interview with Axios, Zelenskyy stated that the United Nations General Assembly provides a suitable location for these trilateral talks. He expressed optimism about U.S. President Donald Trump's ability to initiate the negotiation process before the onset of winter, emphasizing the necessity of dialogue to achieve results.

Zelenskyy's remarks followed a meeting with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Kyiv on September 6, marking their first visit to Ukraine. Prior to that, on September 5, Kushner had met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin. While Zelenskyy received a positive signal from the U.S. envoys regarding Russia's readiness to negotiate, he remained skeptical due to Russia's ongoing aggressive actions.

Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) noted that Putin's demands during the envoys' visit were extensive, extending beyond just the capture of Donbas.
