Tusk slams Poles celebrating far-right AfD's win in Germany

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) far-right party has secured a historic victory in the state elections of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, according to preliminary results. With 43.8% of the vote, the AfD is in a position to form the government, falling just three seats short of an outright majority with 39 seats out of the 83-seat parliament.

However, most German political parties have refused to work with the AfD. Beatrix von Storch, the deputy parliamentary leader of the AfD, called for her opponents to enter talks, stating, "You cannot say I do not accept the vote of the people." Von Storch warned that if there is no cooperation, it could lead to chaos and a new election.

The AfD's leader in Saxony-Anhalt, Ulrich Siegmund, claimed the party had a clear mandate to govern, though the result is not yet final. Discussions with other parties are expected to take days or weeks to conclude, with the AfD reaching out to various parties and individuals. The AfD is currently chatting with members of the conservative CDU group, the largest party in both the outgoing coalition and Germany's federal government, who express dissatisfaction with their own party.

The AfD's policies include a controversial plan for "remigration," which critics interpret as mass deportations of migrants.
