Three takeaways for the three day countdown ahead of the Rams historic season opener in Australia

Three key points to consider as the Los Angeles Rams prepare for their historic season opener in Australia:

1. The 49ers have already arrived in Australia, with their arrival on September 4th giving them a week's head start over the Rams, who are set to travel on Tuesday evening and arrive in Melbourne on Thursday morning. This 24-hour difference, situated before the game on Friday, will set the tone for the Rams' approach to acclimating to the 17-hour timezone difference between California and Melbourne.

Rams head coach Sean McVay remains confident in the team's ability to adapt despite the challenge, stating that players will sleep through the night and have comfortable arrangements during their lengthy 16-hour flight.

2. Wide receiver Davante Adams, who is entering his 13th NFL season and second with the Rams, has been voted captain for the 2026 season. While Adams emphasizes that leadership can be demonstrated without a "C" on one's jersey, he has shown a commitment to guiding his teammates through shared experiences and understanding. His mentorship of rookie wide receiver Konata Mumpfield highlights his ability to foster growth within the team.

Head coach Sean McVay has praised Adams for exemplifying the qualities of a true leader, such as modeling the way and earning the respect of his teammates.

3. Veteran quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams share optimism regarding the Rams' defensive unit, led by former NFL defensive player of the year Aaron Donald. Stafford has spoken highly of Donald's remarkable accomplishments, including eight Pro Bowl selections, three Super Bowl championships, and his three-time Defensive Player of the Year accolade.

The reunion of Stafford and Adams with Donald marks a unique opportunity for Adams to learn from his new teammate, given their past success together. Donald's character and work ethic are integral to the Rams' defense, providing a stabilizing force for the team as they embark on this historic journey.
