Thai King’s son Dr Chakriwat shares health update amid illness

Dr Chakriwat Vivacharawongse, the son of Thailand’s King, has shared a health update, stating he is unwell but determined to recover. The 43-year-old physician posted on his Facebook page on September 6, writing in both Thai and English that he was not well but trying his best. He did not disclose his illness, treatment location, or prognosis.

Rumors suggested the update pertained to brain cancer, but Dr Chakriwat did not confirm this. Known as Than Aong, he is a physician and has neurofibromatosis type 2, a rare genetic condition often causing tumors in the nervous system. He has undergone surgery and radiation therapy for related tumors in the past. In 2020, he underwent chemotherapy, which may indicate non-cancerous schwannomas, though malignant cases are rare.

Dr Chakriwat recently warned that some individuals were falsely using his name to solicit donations for his medical expenses, denying any involvement in such campaigns.
