Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed deserves more credit, Mike Elko says

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko believes his starting quarterback Marcel Reed deserves more recognition for his performance on the field. During a Monday press conference, Elko urged people to watch Reed more closely and appreciate the extent of his contributions to the team. Reed currently stands seventh in Texas A&M history for passing yards and touchdowns, and fifth in total touchdowns scored.

He is the only Aggies quarterback to secure a College Football Playoff berth. Elko emphasized that Reed excels in various aspects of the game, including passing efficiency, touchdown production, and playmaking ability. Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham also praised Reed's "unbelievable touch" in both intermediate and deep passing, as well as his resilience in the face of defensive pressure.

Reed had a strong debut season, leading the Aggies to a 50-0 victory over Missouri State in their season opener. He completed 21 of 30 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing significant improvement in his progression and timing. Despite not making ESPN's top 100 players list or any preseason All-SEC teams, Elko and others remain optimistic about Reed's potential and expect him to make further strides in the remaining 11 games of the season.

Reed acknowledged the need for improvement but expressed satisfaction with his performance in the opener, vowing to make necessary adjustments moving forward.
