Tamil Nadu’s Nagercoil railway station to get 9 new lines to handle more trains

On Monday morning (September 7, 2026), a tragic accident occurred near Kattankulathur, located near Chennai, when the vehicle of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Minister Jagadeshwari K. struck a motorbike ridden by 26-year-old Iraiyanbu. The young man was killed instantly at the Kattankulathur junction. The Minister, who is responsible for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment and represents Virudhunagar, was en route to the Assembly session in Chennai.

She was traveling in a government vehicle, which was trailed by an escort vehicle and her personal car. The Minister's personal car allegedly collided with the motorbike, causing Iraiyanbu's fatal injuries. Police seized the vehicle, which is registered under Minister Jagadeshwari's name, and launched an investigation. Chinna Agni, a 44-year-old driver from Madurai, was apprehended at the scene.

Charges of rash and negligent driving, as well as causing death by negligence, have been filed under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
