Student loan has no political bias — NELFUND boss

Akintunde Sawyerr, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, has dismissed allegations of political bias in the student loan scheme. He dismissed the claim as "completely ridiculous," stating that the electronic application process required basic information like the student's name and matriculation number, which was not programmed to detect political affiliations.

Sawyerr made these remarks during an interview on Channels Television's Sunday Politics programme. He noted that the loan requests were overwhelmingly, and stressed the transparency of the scheme, which only grants applications to students deemed worthy. He further emphasized that the system does not care about a student's religious or ethnic affiliations, and does not have any opinion on whether a student is a Christian, Muslim, or practitioner of African traditional religion.
