이흥구 퇴임사 “비상계엄 법원 입장 전달에 실패…말해야 할 때 제대로 말해야”

Chief Justice Ihyeong-ku concluded his six-year term by acknowledging that he failed to effectively communicate the Supreme Court's stance on the emergency security law enacted in December 3, stating, "If the Court speaks when it must, not speaking when it must leads to further speaking being impossible." He mentioned this during an office farewell ceremony at the Seoul Seoul-gu District Court headquarters on the 7th.

The Chief Justice emphasized, "To regain the trust of the public, we must communicate appropriately at the right moments, explaining the judgments and intentions of the judicial branch." He further noted, "Our legal authority and prestige stem from the trust of the sovereign people. We cannot ignore this situation; instead, we must acknowledge the causes and address them with a forward-looking attitude and effort."

The Chief Justice also expressed concern about the 'Legal 3 Laws' passed by the National Assembly under the Democratic Party's leadership, fearing they would significantly alter the judicial system and court structure. He asserted that the judicial branch must actively monitor and lead changes in the legal framework to prevent any individual from suffering harm.
