Stevens scores 3 TDs as Riders beat Bombers in OT

The Regina Saskatchewan Roughriders secured a crucial 32-26 overtime triumph over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sunday, bolstering their position in the CFL’s West Division standings. With this victory, the Roughriders' record stands at 8-4, placing them second in the West Division behind the Edmonton Elks, who boast an 8-3 record heading into their upcoming match against the Stampeders in Calgary. The Blue Bombers, on the other hand, are now 6-6 following their loss.

Quarterback Tommy Stevens was the star of the game, scoring three touchdowns, including a crucial one-yard run in overtime, bringing his season total to 15 rushing TDs. The ensuing two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, providing an opportunity for the Bombers to catch up. However, the Roughriders capitalized on a third-and-six situation deep in their own territory, sealing the win by halting the Bombers on a crucial play from the Saskatchewan 31-yard line.

Trailing 16-13 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Roughriders capitalized on their next possession with a one-yard touchdown run by Stevens, extending their lead to 20-16. The Bombers managed to reduce the gap to one point when Sergio Castillo connected for his fourth field goal of the game, occurring at the 5:44 mark of the period. In response, Stevens once again showcased his prowess by registering another touchdown run on the ensuing Roughriders possession.

The Bombers secured overtime when Zach Collaros connected with Dorian Singer on a five-yard touchdown pass on the final play of the regulation game. Early in the game, Saskatchewan capitalized on their opening possession with five minutes remaining in the first quarter, taking a 5-3 lead on fourth down. Winnipeg followed suit, gaining its first first down three minutes into the second quarter on their sixth possession of the game.

The Roughriders took the lead at the 12:20 mark of the second quarter with a seven-yard scoring pass from Trevor Harris to Quali Conley.
