Shelton steams into US Open quarter-final clash with Alcaraz

Ben Shelton advanced to the US Open quarter-finals, defeating former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2, 6-3, 6-4. The American, seeded eighth, dominated with his serve, hitting a dozen aces and never facing a break point. Shelton won 71% of his first serves and bagged 84% of the points he won. He powered through the first set in 31 minutes, breaking Tsitsipas on the way to a 3-0 lead and breaking again to claim the set.

In the second set, Shelton took a break at 4-2 and sealed it with a delicate drop shot. Tsitsipas, who had been in fine form, received medical attention after a lengthy conversation with the physio, but Shelton was relentless throughout. Now, Shelton faces defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, who returned to the US Open after a four-month injury layoff.
