School suspended in La Paz, Los Cabos and Comondú as Baja California Sur rains continue

The Baja California Sur State Civil Protection Council suspended all school activities on Monday in La Paz, Los Cabos, and Comondú due to intense rain and wind forecasts, as well as potential impacts from rising streams and flooding. School activities in Loreto and Mulegé remain unaffected. This decision applies to all levels of education, both public and private, as well as morning and afternoon schedules.

State officials explained that the move is preventive, aiming to reduce risks during student, teacher, school staff, and family commutes. Following Hurricane Marie's passage, the Mexican monsoon has caused heavy to very heavy rains in central and southern Baja California Sur through Tuesday. The Los Cabos City Council has opened four temporary shelters to assist vulnerable residents and communities near waterways.

Over the weekend, authorities rescued 10 passengers from three vehicles in La Ribera, Los Cabos. Restrictions still apply for sea access on specific beaches and public roads. Civil Protection authorities warned that water levels can rapidly rise due to runoff, even without rain, and urged residents to avoid crossing streams, flooded streets, and water currents. They emphasized the importance of following official warnings from Civil Protection and Conagua.
