Ruto wraps up three-day tour of Kajiado with bags of goodies

Kisumu, Kenya - On September 7, Coordinators Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya convened elected and nominated Western Kenya leaders in Kisumu to establish a unified political and developmental strategy for the area prior to the 2027 General Election. The assembly included more than twenty-two leaders who deliberated on the region's political landscape and developmental priorities, with a special emphasis on matters under his ministry, such as coffee and savings and credit cooperative societies (SACCOs).

Oparanya informed journalists that the leaders were discussing issues crucial to their community during the initial session. He highlighted that the leaders were reviewing the region's development strategy, targeting areas that require increased attention, including the cooperative sector. Oparanya explained that the cooperative ministry was addressing coffee and SACCO-related issues, prompting the meeting's convening.

Following the initial session, the leaders agreed to convene a second session to formulate a comprehensive resolution based on their discussions. Oparanya emphasized that the leaders were rallying political support for President William Ruto's re-election, stating that all present leaders were actively campaigning for the President for a second term.

He further clarified that the leaders were focusing on the presidential race rather than individual parliamentary contests, acknowledging that Members of Parliament would individually campaign for their seats. Oparanya also stressed that the group would engage county governments in the political mobilization effort, aiming for collective campaigning for Ruto's second term.

The Kisumu meeting would not be a singular event, with leaders agreeing to hold regular meetings while preparing for the next General Election. Oparanya mentioned that five leaders had apologized for their absence, stating they were overseas attending to official duties during the parliamentary recess. The meeting brought together Western Kenya leaders around a common political stance while also offering a platform to discuss developmental priorities, particularly those related to the cooperative sector.
