Qatar reaffirms firm support for Sudan's unity, territorial integrity

Geneva: Qatar has reaffirmed its unwavering backing for Sudan's unity, territorial integrity, and the well-being of its people, according to a statement by the country's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah. The diplomat expressed grave concern over the ongoing armed conflict in Sudan, which has inflicted immense hardships on the Sudanese population.

Delivering the statement during an interactive dialogue on Sudan at the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Her Excellency Al Muftah unequivocally denounced all violations committed during the conflict. She underscored the importance of upholding international humanitarian law, which prohibits targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure in armed conflicts.

Since the onset of the crisis, Qatar has been dedicated to providing various forms of support and assistance to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people. Notably, Qatar Charity has allocated around QAR 18 million (approximately USD 5 million) for humanitarian interventions in Sudan for 2026, addressing critical needs such as displacement, food, health, shelter, water, and basic services.

The Permanent Representative commended the international and regional efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Sudan. She emphasized the necessity of dialogue among all Sudanese parties and the importance of initiating broad, Sudanese-led negotiations aimed at achieving a comprehensive agreement and lasting peace.
