PPP leader vows to block planned integration of military academies

Main opposition leader Jang Dong-hyeok, representing the People Power Party (PPP), vowed on Monday to employ all possible measures to prevent the government from integrating the military academies of the three military branches - Army, Navy and Air Force. During a forum at the National Assembly, Rep. Jang expressed concern that the plan will ultimately weaken the country's defense capabilities.

He argued that the integration of these academies, which the government aims to complete within President Lee Jae Myung's term, should never be undertaken and would take more than a decade to accomplish. Rep. Jang stressed that his party will take every available means to obstruct the plan. He further emphasized that the ultimate goal of integrating the military academies is to undermine national defense by weakening the Republic of Korea armed forces.

Later in the day, Jang visited the Air Force Academy in Cheongju, the central city, and reiterated his opposition to the proposed integration. He expressed anger over the discussions surrounding the integration of military academies, a matter directly linked to the country's security.
