Police deny demanding ₦600,000 for suspect’s release in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has firmly denied reports that they demanded ₦600,000 from the sister of a suspect in exchange for her release. The woman, Ms Nwosu Chikamso Jennifer, was in fact arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into cult-related killings in Awka. The police clarified this in a statement issued on Monday by their Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

Ikenga stated that the allegations were misleading and emerged following an online publication based on a letter from the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre. According to the police, Jennifer was granted bail and assisted in locating her brother, who is still of interest in the investigation. The command stressed their commitment to the rule of law and due process, urging the public to verify allegations with the appropriate authorities.
