PMO: King approves end of emergency declaration in Serian

Kuala Lumpur, September 7 — His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, has authorized the termination of the emergency declaration in the entire Serian division of Sarawak, which was imposed last Friday due to worsening haze conditions. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) announced this decision following consultation with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and other relevant agencies, who determined that the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in the region had fallen below hazardous levels.

Nevertheless, the haze has not yet completely disappeared, with several areas, notably Serian and Samarahan, still showing very unhealthy API readings. The federal and Sarawak state governments will maintain close monitoring of the situation, while residents in the affected regions are urged to minimize outdoor activities and adhere to the directives provided by authorities.

As of 8 a.m. today, Samarahan remained the sole area in Sarawak with a very unhealthy API reading of 226. According to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, 40 areas across the country reported unhealthy levels, 24 areas had moderate readings, and only two areas were classified as having good air quality.
