Part of factory collapses after fire in Karachi's Landhi; efforts continue to put out blaze

A third-degree fire erupted at a factory in the Landhi Export Processing Zone on Monday, prompting the deployment of Rescue 1122 teams, fire brigade vehicles, and ambulances for emergency rescue operations. The Rescue 1122 spokesperson, Hassaan Khan, confirmed that the emergency response team was sent to the scene promptly following notification from the Central Command and Control Centre about the blaze.

Despite prolonged firefighting efforts, the fire could not be extinguished. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, and all workers were securely evacuated from the building. Three individuals were initially trapped inside due to the dense smoke, suffering from suffocation, but the rescue teams managed to bring them out safely. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) informed that the fire brigade had requested immediate assistance.

Acting on the directives of KW&SC CEO Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, emergency measures were swiftly activated at the Landhi and Sherpao hydrants. Water tankers were dispatched promptly, and the hydrants cell cell remained in constant communication with the fire brigade and rescue officials. The KW&SC CEO's hydrants cell focal point was personally overseeing the response, ensuring an uninterrupted water supply to the fire brigade throughout the firefighting operations.

KW&SC spokesperson emphasized that the corporation would continue supplying water tankers until the fire was completely put out and pledged all possible cooperation to rescue agencies to safeguard citizens' lives and property.
