Pakistan rejects India's 'baseless' claims on status of occupied Kashmir

Pakistan firmly rejected India's unsubstantiated assertions regarding the status of occupied Kashmir, asserting that India's "unilateral claims of sovereignty have no bearing on the internationally recognized disputed status of the territory". This stance was echoed by the Foreign Office's spokesperson, Sajjad Haider Khan, who emphasized that India's actions and occupation cannot alter this status.

The spokesperson highlighted that the Kashmir issue remains an unresolved dispute on the UN Security Council's agenda, with relevant UN resolutions stipulating that its resolution must be achieved through a free and impartial plebiscite under UN supervision. Pakistan urged the international community to condemn India's human rights violations in the illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir region and to uphold the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people as outlined in UN Security Council resolutions.

The UN's Equal Earth cartographic projection, which the resolution supports, aims to provide a more accurate representation of the world, contrasting with the traditional Mercator projection that distorts landmasses, particularly benefiting North America and Europe at the expense of Africa. India, voting alongside 163 other countries in favor of the resolution, maintained that the official map must depict its territory, including Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, in accordance with its own map, deeming any deviation unacceptable.
