Packers coach Matt LaFleur vague on Aaron Banks, Zach Bako-Bewele status

The Green Bay Packers faced challenges in preparing their starting offensive line for the upcoming 2026 season. Quarterbacks Aaron Banks and Zach Bako-Bewele were absent from practice due to knee injuries. During a Sept. 7 news conference, coach Matt LaFleur expressed uncertainty about the game status of these two veteran offensive linemen, stating "we'll see."

To compensate for the missing players, the team had to reassign roles, with Anthony Belton filling in at right tackle for Bako-Bewele, Jacob Monk taking over at right guard, and rookie Jager Burton seeing a lot of playing time at left guard. LaFleur emphasized that despite the difficulties, they had to make the best of the situation.

The coach also mentioned that having five key players out of the starting lineup posed a challenge for building continuity. LaFleur outlined his preparations for the upcoming Week 1 game, noting that a significant portion of the game plan was already set. He acknowledged that while there were still unknowns heading into the first game, the Packers had worked on their strategy and gained familiarity with their opponents during the offseason.

LaFleur emphasized the challenge of the early part of the season, but expressed confidence in the team's preparation.
