NOC-K express firm support for Malkia Strikers in 2028 Olympic qualification

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) has expressed unwavering support for the national women’s volleyball team, the Malkia Strikers, in their quest to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. NOC-K President Shadrack Maluki pledged the committee’s backing to aid the team in navigating the complex Olympic qualification pathway and securing a spot at the Games.

This stance was taken following the Malkia Strikers’ 3-0 loss to Egypt in the CAVB final, which left Kenya without the continental title. Despite this setback, Maluki emphasized that the defeat would not hinder Kenya’s Olympic aspirations, as NOC-K remains determined to field a robust Kenyan delegation at the 2028 Games. The focus now shifts towards supporting athletes and teams with the capability to represent Kenya on the world stage.

Maluki stated that while the CAVB final result was disappointing, it does not alter their objective. The Malkia Strikers will now concentrate on the Olympic qualification process, aiming to earn one of the coveted spots at the Los Angeles Games through an intercontinental playoffs. Although the defeat by Egypt meant Kenya missed out on the continental crown, the team’s Olympic ambitions remain strong.
