NHIA pays GH¢281.66m in claims to health facilities nationwide

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) disbursed GH¢281.66 million in claims to credentialed health facilities throughout Ghana for services rendered to National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) members. This payment, issued on August 25 and 27, 2026, represents the cumulative claims payout since the beginning of the year, which now totals GH¢1.64 billion.

The GH¢281,658,680.79 disbursement was distributed among public, private, and mission health facilities across the nation. Public health facilities received the largest share, amounting to GH¢122,734,138.46, accounting for 43.58 percent of the total payment. Private health facilities followed with GH¢104,504,883.03, comprising 37.1 percent, while mission facilities received GH¢54,419,659.30, constituting 19.32 percent of the latest payment.

NHIA's Chief Executive, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, emphasized the Authority's commitment to promptly reimbursing credentialed facilities after their claims have been verified. He highlighted that timely reimbursement is essential for health facilities to maintain the necessary supplies and resources to deliver quality care to NHIS members.

Dr. Bampoe stated, "We understand the facilities require the payment to acquire consumables, enabling them to provide high-quality care to our members. That is why we ensure prompt payment once their claims have been vetted."

The NHIA further explained that timely claims reimbursement is part of its broader strategy to bolster healthcare financing and sustain uninterrupted service delivery within the NHIS framework.
