New BAPS Hindu mandir opens near Paris after five decades of planning

The BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir, Paris, officially opened on Sunday, September 6, after five decades of planning. The landmark inauguration was carried out by His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, the spiritual leader of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. The mandir, which will serve as a place of worship, center for Hindu culture, education, community activities, and fellowship, was consecrated with ancient Vedic prayers and rituals.

Mahant Swami Maharaj dedicated the project to the late His Holiness Yogiji Maharaj, who blessed the land in 1970, and to his predecessor, His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj. The intricate stone carvings for the mandir were crafted in India and transported to France, while French expertise and volunteer efforts contributed to its completion.

The inauguration ceremony began with the traditional consecration, followed by the inaugural arti, a Hindu ceremony involving the offering of light. Mahant Swami Maharaj emphasized the significance of the mandir, reflecting on the decades-long journey and dedicating the efforts to their late guru. The opening marked the culmination of a vision that had been realized under Mahant Swami Maharaj's guidance.

The mandir also symbolizes the collaboration between India and France, with Indian craftsmanship and French expertise combining to create the structure. The inauguration is part of the 13-day Festival of Culture, Paris Mandir Mahotsav, featuring devotional, cultural, and public programs celebrating the mandir's opening.
