NCPTA appeals gov’t to upgrade Category B, C schools amid SHS placement concerns

The National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTA) is urging the government to prioritize upgrading Category B and C senior high schools (SHSs) to attract more parents and students. Kwame Nti Yeboah, Ahafo Regional Secretary of the NCPTA, emphasized that addressing disparities in school facilities and academic resources is crucial during the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and senior high school placement process.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Nti Yeboah suggested that parents should focus on strengthening their children's understanding of Mathematics and English to improve their chances of admission to preferred schools. He called for significant investment from the government in Category B and C schools, emphasizing that the quality of facilities, such as science and ICT labs, and the availability of qualified teachers are key factors in making these institutions more appealing.

Nti Yeboah believes that by upgrading these schools, perceptions will change, encouraging more parents and students to consider them for placement. He highlighted that the ongoing debates over BECE results and SHS placements indicate the necessity for a more sustainable solution, suggesting that enhancing infrastructure and resources could reduce competition for the limited Category A schools and provide students with more options.
