MPs slam major leader over 'feminised' education claim

Federal Nationals leader Matt Canavan's claim that the feminisation of education is fueling online misogyny has been labeled "disgusting" by political rivals. Canavan sparked controversy after suggesting that school curriculums are teaching a "woke agenda" and a "feminised agenda" to young students. He argued that boys are becoming disheartened by lectures on male shortcomings and suggested increasing the number of male teachers.

The remarks have drawn criticism from Labor's special envoy for men's health, Dan Repacholi, who believes Canavan needs to "wind back" his comments. Repacholi accused Canavan of slagging off the teaching profession and inciting further anger and unhappiness among young people. He emphasized that teaching boys to respect girls is not "woke" but merely common decency.

Education Minister Jason Clare defended the inclusion of lessons on consent and gender-based violence in the education system, stating that these topics are crucial for building character and teaching boys to respect girls. Independent MP Kate Chaney also expressed deep disagreement with Canavan's stance, noting that her two sons do not feel they have been brought up in an "anti-boy world." She emphasized the importance of addressing gender-based violence head-on in teenage years and through the education system.
