Mbappe embraces Ballon d'Or talk after historic World Cup exploits

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe expressed on Monday his acceptance of the potential Ballon d'Or nomination following his team's remarkable World Cup campaign. The France captain led his nation to the semifinals, scoring a tournament-high 10 goals and claiming the Golden Boot. With 22 goals in the World Cup, Mbappe now holds the record for the most goals scored at a single tournament. However, he has yet to secure the prestigious individual award.

"Playing for Real Madrid, a club considered the best in the world, naturally leads people to associate me with significant individual accolades," Mbappe stated to reporters. "Many people approach me on the streets, mentioning my potential as a Ballon d'Or winner. I believe it's a good year for that, but plenty of time remains for voting."

Mbappe, 27, joined Real Madrid in 2024 but has failed to bring the club a major trophy. Despite the team's recent struggles, the French star remains focused on individual improvement. "We have to enhance our performance," he admitted. "However, I prefer not to engage in comparisons with other players such as Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha, as everyone possesses unique qualities."

During his two-year tenure at Madrid, Mbappe has scored prolifically, but the club has not won a major trophy. Real Madrid's coach, Jose Mourinho, has expressed a preference for Mbappe to score fewer goals if it contributes to winning titles. Yet, Mbappe remains unswayed by this perspective. "I would gladly take 30 goals along with titles, but I believe it's absurd to choose between the two. One can achieve both simultaneously," he insisted.

Mourinho recently led Inter Milan to Champions League triumph in 2010, and the Portuguese coach is eager to replicate that success at Real Madrid. Inter's current coach, Cristian Chivu, praised Mourinho's leadership and acknowledged the coach's enduring influence. Chivu predicted a bright future for Real Madrid under Mourinho's guidance.
